Research Initiative – information from Dr. Chatterjee
Dear Medical Student,
I am conducting a research project investigating the impact of medically-related experiences on spatial ability among first- and second-year medical students. One aim of this study is to examine if factors such as past education, occupations, course work, hobbies, medical experience, and extracurricular activities somehow influence a person’s ability to visualize and manipulate objects mentally. A second aim is to investigate potential differences in spatial ability between allopathic (MD) and osteopathic (DO) medical students.
The first part of the survey is designed to collect information on past education, occupations, medical experience, and extracurricular activities. The second part of the survey consists of a battery of six spatial ability tests. These tests will assess each participant’s ability to mentally rotate/flip/or otherwise manipulate objects. The objects presented and the tasks themselves are of varying complexity.
The survey is voluntary and anonymous and will take less than 1 hour to complete.
All participants will have the opportunity to save their information and return at a later time to complete the survey. To thank participants for their time, they will have the opportunity to enter their name and email address for a chance to win one of thirty $10 Amazon e-gift cards.
This project (MU IRB Protocol #: S16.029) was approved by the Marian University IRB on 07/29/2016. If you have any questions regarding this study, please contact Dr. Allison Chatterjee, Marian University College of Osteopathic Medicine via email atachat...@marian.edu.
The anonymous survey can be found at the following link:
