Something to chew on for those that have an interest in some
philosophy and deeper meaning of things. Buttons in this case...
We are learning an expensive lesson over and over this year. Buttons
of death exist! In april this year a simple button click by Mweb's
staff resulted in them launching the mother of all hacking attempts
against our system. They ofcourse say it is just a "vulnerability
scan". 80k attacks in 2 hours? You must be kidding me! Anyway if you
are as arrogant as Mweb then it is just a mistake. If you look at the
facts we can charge them with a number of crimes under the ECT ACT.
That is the short version ... all because some fool with a tool
clicked a few buttons!
Then a little later one of my staff clicked an email related button.
2k emails containing invoices went out in seconds. Needless to say the
hiding we got was a bit over the top but you tell a client that 2k
invoices with a little detail wrong is actually not so bad.
So here is a thought ... how much can a button cost? How long before
some Einstein brings down half the world because he/she clicked a
little button? I say forget about fukhisima forget about chernobyl
worry about the next "fool with a tool". They might not bring down the
whole world but at some point in time somebodies world is going to get
destroyed by some fool. Worst of all you may be the fool or may pay
the fool ...
So yes do we understand the impact of what we do on other peoples
lifes? The little buttons the ones that really do almost nothing....
do we really get it?
This email is definitely a chain of unintended consequences. lol. Did
Amy ever think her message would be publicaly posted?
