Hi,  Any help in providing me with good answers and knowledge surrounding the questions below would be great.

I want to enter into your field as an interaction designer/ user interface designer/ user experience designer focusing primarily around online products.

Quick background:

I have a BA degree in Photographic and digital media combined with Sound design and have good knowledge of most of the adobe suite. I have been working within a large corporate company within the UK for the last 4 years in sales as an account manager, managing complex customer relationships at different levels throughout the business.

Questions:

-Best masters courses to easiest transition into the industry with my experience...? I believe the quality and standard of courses offered varies hugely for the benefit they provide to future employers.

-CSS, Javascript & HTML seem almost crucial to most employers within the job roles above, do you think they are still going to be obligatory or is my time better spent focusing on other applications for the future?

-Specialising in a particular area can be fruitful, any advice/ideas on what to go for...?

-Travel and working around the world is a very attractive prospect to me and seems relatively possible in this field. Would you agree? Can you share your personal experiences?

-Care to share a few lines on your entry into the fields above, did you come straight from university into a junior interaction designer/junior user interface designer etc. position? Other position? What were your career moves straight after exiting university?

Huge thanks

Hi Neil,

"did you come straight from university into a junior interaction designer/junior user interface designer etc. position?"

-- No. I worked my way through from web generalist and got tangled up in the web of multi-directional pulls. Ultimately found my direction after doing a small piece of UX-related work, then bought a book and finally started talking to people.

I'm in the process of receiving my formalised training in Interaction Design, HCI at Kingston University (UK). Now doing my dissertation.

"Other position? What were your career moves straight after exiting university"

I've recently made the transition from a typical Digital Marketing agency, as head of UX, into a more client-facing Agile UX role for a software Dev company, and loving it.

If you're in London we can talk more...

Cheers,
-- Rob
