MADAGASCAN CUCKOO – still present today at Soetdoring Nature Reserve near Bloemfontein. Apparently, it was on the opposite side of the river until about 10am this morning after which it flew over to the reserve side and everyone then got good views of it – reported independently by Rick Nuttall and Alan Collett.

For those of you that are still thinking about twitching the MADAGASCAN CUCKOO at Soetdoring Nature Reserve near Bloemfontein, I’ve just been informed this morning that a decision has come from “on high” that the reserve will be closed from today onwards and no more birders will be allowed in to look for the bird…L It makes no sense, given the relaxing of certain Level 3 restrictions last night but, unfortunately, there doesn’t seem to be too much that can be done about it.
