PHYLLOSCOPUS WARBLER – Callan Cohen found a bird of this genus and managed to sound-record it yesterday morning in a garden in Hilltop Street in Scarborough. It was heard again a few times and also seen briefly by just a couple of people during the rest of yesterday and has, once again, been seen very briefly in the same area this morning by just a couple of people. The bird seems incredibly covert and manages to sneak through and out of trees and bushes without anyone seeing it at all and is incredibly frustrating at the moment. Whatever the case, it appears that it is likely to be a new species for Southern Africa. Based on sonogram analysis by several European experts, the suggestion is that it is a likely GREEN WARBLER (Phylloscopus nitidus), although this ID has not been confirmed with 100% certainty yet and further analysis and hopefully some photos and further sound recordings will probably assist in trying to work this incredibly tough ID out. More info to follow as it comes to the fore.
Kind regards
