Good morning SARBN subscribers,

Just a quick non rarity related post… and, in fact, 2 things that I want to mention quickly, both being run by our good friends at BirdLife South Africa to raise much needed funds for their very important bird conservation projects.

Firstly, for those of you that are not aware of it, they are currently running a photography competition which is due to close on 18 July 2025, so there are just 10 days still left to enter it. There are some incredible prizes up for grabs, many of which I am quite jealous of. I’m sure many of you have a bulging library of incredible bird photographs, so why not scrounge through those, select a few and enter them into the competition and, who knows, perhaps you could be walking away with one of those incredible prizes!! If you’re interested in finding out more about the competition, or to enter some of your photos, head on over to https://www.birdlife.org.za/photocomp2025/ to see all the details. I really hope that many of you will consider entering this competition with your great photos and I wish all of you the best of luck for the outcomes…J

On a separate, but related, note, it is also the time of the year that BLSA runs its Jackpot Birding raffle. This raffle closes on Friday, 17 October 2025 or sooner, if all the tickets have already been sold before that date. Tickets are R650 each and there are only 1000 tickets available so, as always, one stands a fairly decent chance of winning because of the low number of tickets. This year, the prize is a birding trip for 2 people (incl return flights from Johannesburg) to the Eastern Andes of Ecuador. Having just recently been to this part of the world and experienced the incredible birds that are there, I can tell you that this is a trip of a lifetime!! The birds are simply incredible – there is no other way to describe them! You do not want to miss out on this chance…!!

I’ve attached a flyer for the raffle, but you can also head on over to https://www.birdlife.org.za/jackpot-birding-2025/ for further details and to purchase your tickets in the raffle.

I really hope that the SARBN community will strongly consider supporting both of the above initiatives very well as, ultimately, all money raised through these will be used towards the conservation of the birds that we all love so much. I’m looking forward to hearing back from my friends at BLSA to tell me that their photography competition has had a huge boost in entries and that they have sold all of the tickets in their raffle, thanks to the incredible support of the SARBN community…J

Kind regards

Trevor
