Hi all SARBN subscribers,

I’m sure, amongst the many subscribers to this group, there must be a few very tech-savvy people that possibly have some advice for me on this or can help me with these issues…

For the last 17,5 years, SARBN has been operating on Google Groups without any issues at all. It was easy and it worked effortlessly. I could easily add new members and everyone received every email that was sent. Recently, things have changed though… I can now only add members if they have a gmail email address and everyone else needs to be invited, rather than added. I can still live with this, but there is an even larger issue now…

The biggest issue is that not all subscribers are receiving all emails anymore. And there does not seem to be any pattern with this at all. Sometimes the emails come through directly to your inbox, sometimes they are routed directly to your spam folder and, sometimes, they just don’t arrive at all. As an example, I sent out the formal report last night which not everyone received, and I have already sent out 2 updates on 2 different rarities this morning which not everyone has received either. And, although I am not a particularly tech-savvy person, there does not seem to be anything obvious that I can do from my side to fix this…!

So, my question is does anyone know if there are specific ways to fix the issues that we are currently experiencing with Google Groups and SARBN or, is it time to consider moving to another platform which will eliminate all of these issues for me…? If the latter is a better option, then which is the recommended platform to consider?

Please also bear in mind that this is a free service, so I don’t want to end up having to pay for a platform to run on SARBN on. Also, we already have over 6300 subscribers to SARBN, so there shouldn’t be a low limit to the number of subscribers we can have for the system. And, sometimes, the reports are quite photo-heavy and, therefore, large in size, so I also wouldn’t want a limit to the size of the emails that can be sent on the platform (within reason). Ideally, I would want a simple system that is easy to add subscribers to and that I can also send simple emails from the field to as well, rather than some web interface that I would have to log into to get the messages out. And I would also want the option to give others posting permissions to the group to keep the news flowing on the occasions that I am away and cannot do it myself.

If anyone has advice that speaks to all of the above, or can assist in setting something else up to run SARBN on, please do feel free to get in touch with me directly and let me know. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks everyone, and sorry for the non-rarity related email, but I’m trying to get it resolved to keep the rarity news flowing to all of you…J

Kind regards

Trevor

Hi everyone,

Just trying to send this out from my work email address now as well as the exact problem that I was talking about in this email seems to have happened again this morning.

If you can assist, please reply to my home email address at hard...@mweb.co.za, and not this one.

Thanks and regards

Trevor
