I've just received a call from Chris Schultz who reports a GREAT SPOTTED CUCKOO near Klipheuwel. Apparently, the bird was first seen yesterday and is still present there today.
It is about 1km down the road which you turn right on to just before the main T-junction that one reaches travelling from Durbanville (where you turn left to Malmesbury and right to Stellenbosch). From what he explained to me, I had a quick look on Google Earth and the co-ordinates for the site seem to be roughly at 33 42 32,89 S 18 42 30,18 E.
This is still an incredibly rare bird in the Western Cape and many of the top provincial listers still need it for their provincial lists, so I suspect that if it continues to show, it is going to be a fairly popular bird...
Good luck if you are planning on chasing it!
Kind regards
Trevor
