Does anybody have a system with the capability to attach both an 80-pin SCA SCSI drive, and a USB hard drive? I'd like to dump the contents of the SCSI drive to my USB drive. I have an adapter to use this drive with my Indigo2 but it's just not working -- and even if I got it working, it would be really sloooow to transfer the files over the network. The ethernet on the Indigo2 is like molasses :)

Oh, and the SCSI drive is XFS, so this would probably have to be a Linux system (unless you somehow have an SGI with usb ports!)

Daniel,

We have one here but the build quality sucks and it really doesn't work well.

Looking online this one seems to have good reviews though it just
looks ours but re-branded and like 4 years newer.

This might sound strange, but I have an external SCSI CD drive that actually plugs into a USB port.  If it will help I can figure out someway to get it to you.

Hmm, interesting. I've seen some SCSI->usb cables/adapters but they are generally quite expensive, over $100. Any idea what kind of connector it uses internally? 50-pin?

I have one but the USB is 1.1 and would therefore take somewhere upward of a week to transfer anything but the smallest amount of data.

Ouch, that /would/ be painful!

Sorry about the delay.  Ever had Murphy visit and then need to do an image restore?  Well, not fun, but time consuming even thought I am retired I still have a wife with honey do’s.  Anyway, back up and yes I think it has a 50 pin internal plug but it uses usb to interface with the PC.  I have another one that is SCSI in with a SCSI CDROM in it.  If nothing else, I need to find the time to see your place and see if anybody can use them.  I am not a contributor to this disposable society.  If somebody can use something that I have scrounged out of something, I will let them have it.

I seen where you all have dumped a bunch of stuff and I was way too busy to go and see.  But I have a huge Battery Backup that I think was used for a phone system.  I think it used about 6 big batteries, that are missing, and would probably work for a somewhat small network to keep alive.

Howdy Joe,

Do you still have the SCSI CDROM (with SCSI interface)? I wouldn't mind taking that off your hands, if so...

(I got an Adaptec PCMCIA adapter for my computer, so I don't need a USB thingus anymore -- but a CDROM might be handy)

cheers,

Sure, I have two of the devices.  Different models and both have some kind of CD-ROM in them.  I have absolutely no use for them, but do no contribute to this disposable society we have created.  If you could possible give me the best directions to get to your place in San Antonio I could try to drop them off in the very near future.  I live right outside Seguin city limits but do go into SA quite often.  I think that your place is close to “Dave the Barrel Man”, which is over off of Roosevelt.  Anyway, just give me the best way to get there and I will do my very best to get by there this next week.  I really need to see what you guys do over there.  I first heard about your group over at KCOMM, where there was a flier advertising you.

It's pretty much a straight shot down I-10 for you, I'd imagine. I come at it from the other direction (going east on 10, vs. west for you), and then take the Probandt exit. From there I'd just look at Google Maps or something to see how you want to get there -- the default directions have you take Steves Ave which is probably most direct, but a little counterintuitive.

There's a 50% chance I'll be in McQueeney tomorrow afternoon. I could swing by your place and pick up the CDROMs if you'd like. Assuming I end up going, of course :)

I'm not yet a member of the Hackerspace since I'm more of a software guy and also a bit lazy and reclusive by nature. But if memory serves the space is only open to non-members during the week by appointment -- so you might want to let Chris or Mike know when you're coming. (Is that correct, guys?)
