Hi gang, here are my thoughts on the site of the awards:

I checked out the following places but list why I discounted their use:

Civic Park Modbury - has very little car parking, and I don't think parking over in TTP is a good option

A park in the back of Regent Gardens - nice, but little parking & no Public Toilets

Parks on South Terrace at Pooraka, again, plenty of parking, but no Loo's

Kensington Park - has not a lot of parking, gets quite busy there too

Carrisbrook park -  in the badlands... oh I did not say that, a few events have been held here,as  it's in parrot Territory

Stockade park -  ticks most of the boxes, but there is no playground for the amusement of the children, relief to parents a good playground is

Reserve park we held our 12.12.12 event has, ticks all the boxes, but it is in the badlands, but it depends if there is a football game, may impact on parking

I would like to avoid the usual parks where other events have already been held, Bonython park, Rymill Park

We could look at Ellis park, but I am not sure of the facilities there

Goodwood Orphanage Park we used last year - still a good choice, but again, we need to get there early to stake out the area we want to use, but it could still all come unstuck

Considered a possibility would be Thorndon Park  - could be busy, the area has a big covered shelter, and states it is a shared facility. I did not take a close look at the BBQ's I'd need to check again, but we'd also have to get there early to stake out our spot and set up.

Possible dates - 7th April or 14th of April ? would we be ready? or I have tossed around the idea of ANZAC Day - being a Thursday a public holiday possibly will draw a few extras to the event, although there may be those arranging Friday off for a long weekend away.

Comments?
Suggestions of other parks to try.

Gayle & Mark

Random parks that come to mind:
  • Morialta (bush setting, would have space and facilities, not sure about playground)
  • Hazelwood Park (what a  cracker! has everything, but does get busy)
  • Tusmore Park (its Hazelwood on a smaller scale)
  • The Gums (out Gyndeburn way - never been there - just saw it on the map)
  • Drage Reserve (was that a Wibble Halloween event site - recall it being quite good?)
Am I helping, or making it worse?

My thoughts on below -

Morialta I believe there is a parking fee-issue there for our size, may not be a good idea
Can you tell me where Hazelwood park - park is, I'll check it out, there was one in that vacinity we looked at last year, but it was toooooooo popular for kids birthday parties, in fact the Scoobsters were there at a party when we were looking around

Same for Tusmore park, can check it out too.
We went past the Gums last year, and I did go past there as well, parking in the area could be an issue & last year Audra & I were not all that comfortable with it...

Drage reserve - we cut this one out for the reason a few events ave been held there, and parking is usually a squeeze....

all good thoughts, keep them flowing.

The one thing
I did forget to put in my previous post was Friday I was up in the hills area, and wondered if we should venture into the GOTHS territory for this years awards? making it a "moving"location event would be a god idea.

cheers
Gayle

Hi ya

  1. Hazelwood Park S 34° 56.118 E 138° 39.473
  2. Morialta - true, I was thinking more of the Stradbroke Road section (park on the road) - but sure there are netter options around
  3. Linde Reserve (Stepney) is very impressive these days.
Up in the hills sounds nice to me :)

Hi, well checked out Stepney - park is nicely done up, but there is no playground/play equipment for kids. :(
We found a park in Broadview it is on the corner of Mawson & East Tce, has BBQ's Loos, and playground, perhaps some one else can swing by and provide an opinion.
Also the park where our Come Celebrate 50 is located in Campbelltown, it is Park St & Reserve Rd Campbelltown.
The park at Hazlewood park was one we discounted last time because it gets too busy.
Or we could go with the park where we held the 12.12.12 event.. I'd still have to find out the football situation.

more food for thought.
cheers

OK.  I might get a chance to visit Broadview later next week.

BTW,there is a playground at Stepney is pretty much at  34° 54.658'S 138° 37.699'E, but I think its surrounded by temporary fencing at the moment, possibly related to the Fringe? Have some pics of it - its all brand new too.

I was not sure about play equipment, but on the 23rd March there is a fair there, there are signs up at the parade advertising the event.
So we could still use it, but the BBQ are made us feel like we were just outside of some ones personal yard space..... just a thought,
Gayle

Hey, just drove by another cool park:

Regent Gardens Reserve
Sir Ross Smith Bvd, OAKDEN, Adelaide,

Have a look - playground is small, but I'm sure a cricket bat/footy etc will help keep kids entertained. Parking might be limited.
