Is S710 supposed to work with 'Polar Interface Plus'?

I'm the happy owner of a Polar XTRAINER Plus and the 'Polar Interface
Plus'. Lately I've been trying to transfer my exercises by S710d via a
Serial-USB-Adapter (GUC232A) on Fedora Core 6. Since I've had no luck
so far I would like to know if it's supposed to work at all or only on
newer gear.
