Hello,

At a command prompt I ran:

./configure --with-usb

I see:

config.status: creating include/config.h
config.status: include/config.h is unchanged
config.status: executing depfiles commands

Configuration (s710)
USB support: disabled (http://libusb.sf.net)
Max valid heart rate: 206
Max valid cadence: 170
HRM output MaxHR: 200
HRM output RestHR: 60
Workout file directory: /var/polar/s710/raw

It appears that I need libusb, but which version 1.0 or .1?

Without libusb, my knoppix 6.44 system (kernel 2.6.37) detects my IR
dongle:

May 7 00:13:59 Microknoppix kernel: [143916.223350] usb 1-3: IR
Dongle converter now attached to ttyUSB0

I was able to get the .config to work when I downloaded, compiled,
and installed libusb.1
