Hi,

I was looking into making some improvements to the b2 backend, and noticed that Backblaze actually also offers an S3-compatible API (https://www.backblaze.com/apidocs/introduction-to-the-s3-compatible-api).

It seems to me that S3QL should thus be able to use Backblaze through the s3c backend.

Can any of the users of the b2 backend tell me if they have tried doing that, or if they know why a separate backend might be required?

(The original MR that added the b2 backend, https://github.com/s3ql/s3ql/pull/116, doesn't say anything about this. Maybe the S3-compatible API didn't exist back then?)

(Cc to Paul, one person I know to be using the b2 backend)

Best,
-Nikolaus

I recall trying the s3 backend when I first started, without success. I forget why.
I think i did a quick test with s3 recently without success, but i was more focused on getting the b2 backend working.

I also assumed the native backend would work better than a going through a compatibility layer, at the backblaze end.

I can't test this week but I will circle back in the future and can test then.

Cheers,
Paul

Hi,

I've just pushed a draft MR that rewrites the B2 backend as a thin layer on top of the S3 backend: https://github.com/s3ql/s3ql/pull/437.

It'd be great if backblaze users could give that a spin. With the test account that I have, it worked fine.

Best,
-Nikolaus
