Hi Piyush,I am Ravi Mashalkar and I have got admission in NUS S3 MBA 2011 intake. I had first contacted you on pagalguy (my login: thedifferentone) and I got your email ID from Shantanu Chandr who has also secured admission in NUS S3, 2011.
I have confirmed my admission with NUS S3 and currently waiting for admission package. I have few questions regarding the course, accommodation and preparation part and as a current student, you will be in better position to answer them. Below are some of these questions.1) What percentage of NUS S3 students got scholarships in your class? I have asked this same question to NUS S3 admission team with no answer so far. [about 1/3 of the class has scholarships or other financial assistance. unfortunately i'm not one of them. also, the selection criteria for the scholarships isn't something that the universities disclose. so i guess you'll just have to wait and see if you get it.]2) Did you take loan from any indian bank? If yes, can you please share with us the bank name, % of total tution fees taken as loan and interest rate? I want to have an idea if banks put an upper limit on loaned amount. (Yes! I am completely ignorant on this front.) [Indian Govt. has set the cap for ed loans for foreign studies at Rs. 20 Lakhs as per my info. the banks usually give you this loans against appropriate securities and other requirements that are decided by the banks. the rate of interest is usually 10% to 12% again varying from bank to bank. id suggest you do thorough homework before selecting a bank. i took my loan from Allahabad Bank because my dad was working there before his retirement.]3) What is generally advisable for accommodation - On campus or off campus facilities? [at Fudan and KUBS we have accommodation arranged by the univs and you're supposed to live there. you can also find your own accommodations at these places but it is recommended to stay at the places univs provide. at NUS, you have a choice in terms of either staying on campus or off campus. you can again work on it when you have to reac singapore.]4) I have raised this to admission team but I would like to know your views on it as well. Does immigration department put any constraints on internships in China and South Korea? Also, what types of internships students take up during semster breaks? Are there any sites that students generally use to get such internships? [internships are quite difficult in our program since we are on a student visa here. also there are two breaks in the course of about 4-6 weeks each. i did mine in india through my own contacts. you would do better if you used your own resources for internships and preferred to do it in india.]5) How do you propose to best utilize current time so that we are ready to face the S3 challenge? [Party Hard! :)]6) I am planning to attend the NUS orientation in Singapore (though it is not mandatory for S3 students and separate orientation will be held @ Fudan for S3 students). What are your views about it? Will it be helpful? [i didn't attend that orientation and i haven't really missed anything. you can still go to get a feel of the thing but it is not a must. plus each orientation will anyways take you through the required informations.]7) Anything else that you would like to share with us? Things to do and things NOT to? [do your research about the places and the travel requirements etc. don't worry too much. these people will give you all the help you need.]I understand you will be very busy with the course @ KUBS but your inputs for above questions will be really helpful for me.P.S. I got a chance to read your blogsite. You write good! I simply loved the blog where you talked about failures and life opens another door when one is closed. Thanks in advance,
