Hi All,

I was wondering if there was a way to control the grid box shading? I
currently have a tool which I use to visualise variations in the
bandpass of a calibrator over time. If values that I visualise vary
about 0.0 in z (e.g. -0.1 to 0.1) then the axis labels are reasonably
easy to read (light text on dark grey), however, if the values that I
visualise vary about an offset in z (e.g. 5.0 to 5.2) then the axis
labels are very hard to read as they appear as light text on a light
grey background.

Also, what does the "P" option control when supplied to s2box? I've
seen it used in a number of examples (e.g. http://astronomy.swin.edu.au/s2plot/index.php?title=Function:s2box
) but the option doesn't appear to be documented.

Cheers,

Emil.

Yes - there a couple of options.

1. When program is running, press the <r> key several times to toggle through the shading modes.

2. Set the default shading mode to flat-shading using:

ss2srm(SHADE_FLAT);

3. Set your own default lights in the environment using ss2sl, see the example at:

This issue arises because s2plot is trying to make a "best guess" at what the lighting should be, depending on the data range and the viewport size, but doesn't always get it right.

Also, what does the "P" option control when supplied to s2box? I've

It doesn't actually do anything - I got enthusiastic while typing option characters in the examples.  The only valid letters are those listed on the s2box function page.  Consider it an example that if you add extra characters to the formatting string, they are ignored! :-)

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the quick response ... I'll give this a go.

Cheers,

Emil.
