Has anyone disabled their day time running lights? I have a 1997. The S10 groups explain how to do it but either our trucks are unique or I'm not seeing it. On the 98, there's a diode in the fuse box under the hood. It's clearly labeled DRL, with the diode symbol. On the 97 there is supposed to be a diode in the fuse block on the left side of the dash. I know you can just give the parking brake a one click push, but I don't like driving around with the brake light on. With my lead acids decreasing range, I'm looking for any power savings.

The brake light should not be on.  The DRL feature uses only the front turn-signal bulbs.   Nothing in back.   Might be worth a couple of feet of range.

I'm sorry to say, whatever source stated it was in the dash fuse
block of a '97 was pulling all of your legs.

To disable '97 DRL's, you must remove a plug-in diode block that is
buried behind the IP cluster ductwork.
And to gain access to it, you must rotate the dash forward after
dropping the steering column and column harness assembly.
Have you noticed the pin on each side at the bottom of the dash
frame, behind the kick panel cover? That's the pivot point.
I believe the above procedure is also detailed in the 1997 S-10
Electric service manual set, volume 1.
A real sicko at GM was behind one. Yes, in the '98 it's a five second
procedure to pull the diode from the fuse box.

Not a task worthy of the watts saved. Better results if you remove
the rear box and lay flatbed planks ;)

Regards, Jeff

I pulled the 20 amp fuse from the fuse block, (circuit 15), labled DRL.
DRLs are off. Even the dash light for the DRL. Checked all of my other
lights and they are working fine.
