Isaac,
When you say "everything" are you speaking literally? I don't have any spares to help you out, but for someone to help, they would need to know. If you're not sure what is missing, I have some diagrams and pictures that may help.

Subject: [S10-EV] HELP! Needs battery box parts for a 97 Lead acid.

So many of you have come to know Noah and I, and our battle with our
97 S10 EV.  Long story short, we've been battling back and forth with the military to get title, the truck was taken from us and given by the military to a public works department.  After they realized what they were given, the city agreed to sell the vehicle back to us.  I just got off the phone with the public works director and found out that everything was stolen out of the battery box while it was sitting in their yard.  The battery box had been left sitting loose in the bed of the truck and someone had broken into their yard and ripped everything out of it.  So we still have the box itself, but none of the components that were in it.

Does anyone have any leads on what the cost might be and where we could locate all of the missing items from the battery box?  Perhaps from one of the donor trucks that people have stashed away?

Thanks,
:Isaac:

Isaac, Don,

As I recall the gentleman in SB that purchased two battery boxes off of ebay back in 07.2008 was Dan Mattice.  At the time his email = dan7707 (at) cox.net .  His number was 805-698-6595.  He had a ’97 s10e that the battery box was missing from, and got two in a purchase as noted above.  I haven’t ever heard if he was able to complete his project or what happened to the extra parts.

Good luck.

Hello Isaac

Sad to hear what happened. What a waste.

I was hoping someone would post they had your parts. I don't believe there are any spare parts or salvage trucks around. There was one complete box sold a couple of years ago. The box went for a little over a thousand dollars complete less batteries. I have no idea who bought it.

If they removed everything that is going to be very difficult to put the battery tray back together again. I have complete trucks but none that are parted out. It sounds like you should go back to who you bought the truck from and renegotiate the price. In the tray is the BMS and the AD modules they are still available but will be around 1000 dollars. There are other parts but I am sure they would not be available anywhere. Without the pack wiring harnesses and the other parts in there. It would be best just to use this truck as a parts truck.

I believe the box is intact with the parts for the battery cooling.
It's the electronic components that are missing. The orange harness is
still there. I'll see if they can send me a photo of it. Or else Noah
can hopefully go look at it. I'll follow up as soon as I get more
details.

Isaac.

Hi Kevin,

Well, since neither Noah or I have seen the truck yet this is what the public works director told me, "everything."  Apparently their yard get's raided once in a while by people stripping copper.  They must have opened the box, seen the wires in side and stole it for the copper value.  That includes the components that were in the grey/metal boxes (battery/controller stuff?).  This is extremely depressing and frustrating...

I'm hoping Noah can go down there and get a look at it soon and see if it really was everything, or just some of the things.

Thanks,
:Isaac:

Hi Everybody,
Many life changes in the past few months have caused us to consider selling our beloved S10E. For the past three years my wife has worked about 4 miles from our home and I have been an electrical contractor using the truck for getting materials, going out on estimates and just running errands around town. Now both of us are commuting over 50 miles to Portland and the S10 will just be sitting in the driveway.

We have driven about 17,000 miles with the truck and loved every bit of it. It seems ironic to be selling it now that gas prices are going up again. It is a 1997 NiMH conversion. We have installed a fire suppression system in the battery box and a full tonneau cover to help with wind resistance and provide a safe dry storage compartment for groceries, etc. Real world maximum range is about 50 miles. Just last fall I drove to Woodburn for a load of wood stove pellets. The trip was pretty level, I stayed on secondary roads to keep the speed around 40 MPH, loaded up 1,000 pounds of pellets and drove home. The trip odometer showed 48.6 miles when I got back. Of course all of you know that hills, speed and extreme temperatures can and will lower the range significantly.

This would be a great vehicle for someone with a short commute - it should have a lot of life left in it. It is hard to know what to ask for it. We are into it for about $23,000, but with government incentives you can almost get a brand new Leaf for that price. We would hope to get about half of that for it.

Anyone interested?

Darell lives in Davis, California, drives a RAV4EV and a Ranger EV, used to drive an EV-1, and no longer needs the LPI charger in his garage.  EAA is an abbreviation for the Electric Auto Association.

As suspected, the LPI I’ve got here is an EAA unit. Official price is $275 plus tax, packaging and shipping if needed. Probably a bit less desirable at that point! Still if somebody needs one, and is local to me here in Davis it may be a good deal.
