Hello Again!
Situated on the banks of Yamuna, most people in Delhi must have seen Purana Qila even before they knew what is was. From the road one can see the Fort standing on a small rise with the lake in front. But nothing prepares you for the immensity and the sense of palatial grandness till you go inside it. The ruins of the fort are beautiful in its own way.
Purana Qila is one of the oldest Forts in India. Many Mughal Emperors have reigned here but have either died in throne or have been ousted. The fort was believed to be unlucky for any ruler operating from here. It offers a number of monuments to learn about with deep rooted history and abundance of nature to enjoy.
It is where one gets evidence of Painted Grey Ware pottery, which makes Delhi an inhabited locale from 1200 to 600 BC.
The Walk will attempt to bring out the multifaceted understanding of the heritage landscape along with narrative on architectural details and the Mughal history.
Lets get together on a lazy sunday morning and enjoy the gorgeous weather for a Heritage Walk at the PURANA QILA. Guiding us through the magnificent structure is Dr Navina Jafa,
who is a cultural activist, academician in Heritage education, tourism, dance studies, culture and development and conflict resolution through heritage.
Dr. Jafa was a Fullbright Scholar on Cultural Management and cultural diplomacy at the Smithsonian Center for Folk life and Cultural Heritage in Washington DC, USA.
We welcome our members to bring along their spouses and children for this event. A great opportunity to educate and expose your children to the history and culture of India.
Details are as under :
Date : Sunday 7th Dec, 2014
Time : 9.30 am ( Walk will start at 10am sharp)
Venue : Meeting point is in front of the ticket counter of the Purana Qila (Old Fort)
For your convenience there is parking space freely available in the Zoological park.
Charges : Rs 1500 per person (member or non-member)
Pls bring the money in sealed envelopes
After burning the calories while walking, we will head out to enjoy a scrumptious breakfast, at the Smoke House Deli, Khan Market. Breakfast will be charged as per actuals.
Kindly send us your confirmation immediately as we need to give a total number of attendance to our guide for them to organize the perfect educative and informative tour. Please note that we need a minimum number of members to attend else we will be forced to cancel the event.
