At the time I had a cut-price supplier of a reasonable brand of glossy paper, which made it worthwhile tweaking the printer-driver settings to adjust the colour balance and amount of ink delivered. Tedious, but it worked - far better than switching between various rendering intents.
Epson, Canon, etc design the default settings in their printer drivers to only give optimum results with their OEM papers. Use another (quite probably far cheaper) brand and you're on your own unless the paper manufacturer supplies printer profiles.
We also encountered issues with the software drivers included in the box. After experiencing severe banding after printing just a few photos, we aligned the print head and things seemed to be working until an unexplained error popped up on the screen prompting us to power down the printer and restart. We followed Epson's instructions and even tried searching for an updated driver, but still experienced the same intermittent errors. We also reinstalled the driver several times, restarted and power cycled the printer and our desktop with no success. The random errors disrupted our work flow--we almost spent more time behind the printer freeing up jams than actually testing the device.
We're also very impressed with the Artisan 800's capability to produce solid images across a variety of media materials and sizes. We printed our stock image on 20 pound plain paper and Epson's own premium glossy photo paper at both 8.5 by 11 inches as well as 4 by 6 inches. Each time, the output quality displayed solid lines, clear pictures, and bright colors. The printer uses six separate ink cartridges that you can purchase individually on Epson's Web site. The embedded printing options in the driver software are more extensive than the competition, showing job progress, pagination, and preferences for fine and normal lines, customizable presettings, and a maximum resolution of 5,760x1,440dpi.

Epson backs the Epson Stylus 800 with a limited two-year warranty that includes toll-free customer support weekdays from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. PT. Further support is available online through a model-specific troubleshooting guide, FAQs, e-mail support, driver updates, and document downloads.

Since DiskEtch does not launch the Epson driver interface automatically when I click on "Print" from within DiskEtch which launches the generic Windows print dialog, I click on the "Preferences" button and manually select the Epson printer "CD/DVD" source, type, etc. however once I print I get the dialog above ...and it's impossible to print to the CD/DVD directly.
My Epson Artisan 1430 worked perfectly for about a year then stopped. The Ink and Paper Feed lights are both flashing and the Epson driver/software says I have a paper jam. Here's the message I'm getting:
my epson 405 has been good until couple of months ago, i always used the correct genuine inks even though they are expensive and it has now decided to tare paper up and make a cranking noise as paper starts to feed ready for printing. i have removed all paper, restarted, unplugged, but no joy. They probably have a lifespan so that they run out just after the warranty period!! as do so many items nowadays!
As for the 1430 issue, I found that if I print within the natural borders of a selected page size, such as not try borderless or over print the paper for whatever reason, the paper jam light does not come on. It is rather tricky trying to get the 1430 in the right mood to print but it usually goes well with a fresh boot for the computer, then the printer, then select the print paper type, size, and the document or photo size and do not choose borderless. There is obviously a communication issue between the Epson drivers and Win10. I am using an independent driver set from another company and the printer never fails and I can over print with this independent driver, which means, Epson needs to come up with a patch for their drivers. I have yet to see a printer do any better than the 1430 on a consistent basis and print CD/DVDs.
Let's Power off the epson printer for 10 minutes. now power it back on. if the error still continues, you need to reset the printer. to do that, you need to go to the factory restore default settings. now click on the factory reset the printer. Windows users get a pretty standard set of options from the printer driver. The screen shown below are accessed by hitting the properties button in the print dialog. The Mac drivers are broadly similar, but with a slightly different set of pages.
Both Mac and PC users are provided with Epson's own Easy Photo Print software, which is a basic system for printing photos and other images. It provides an easy to use front end to the printer driver which can create single prints from multiple images, create index prints and the like. It does not contain any editing features beyond basic cropping and resizing. It's adequate for basic printing tasks, but it won't replace a decent image editing and cataloging program such as Photoshop Elements. Also included is Epson Print CD, which allows you to quickly create CD/DVD labels. Again, this is adequate for creating basic labels with text and a couple of images, but not for producing more professional results.
One thing to note here: there is a bug in the Mac drivers for this printer that causes an error when printing from recent versions of Photoshop (CS3 and CS4); prints come out extremely dark because the images are being processed twice. All of the standard paper sizes with widths of up to 8.5 inches are supported; the printer and drivers can handle letter, 10 by 8, 4 by 6 and A4 size paper, as well as smaller 4 by 6 photo paper and a variety of envelope sizes. Borderless printing can be handled at sizes of 4 by 6, 4 by 7, 8 by 10 and 8.5 by 11 inches.
Epson takes a minimalist approach to the controls on the printer itself: there are only three buttons for power, cartridge replacement and a print/cancel button. There is no screen, menus or other controls on the printer; everything else is handled through the driver running on the computer.
Both printers rely on the computer to do much of the grunt work; they are primarily designed for use with programs such as Photoshop rather than working directly with digital cameras. And this process is mostly easy on both printers: the drivers and included software are simple to use and configure, although they do require some knowledge of how printers work to get the best results.
Both printers are for printing images and documents from a computer: neither includes memory card or direct printing features. We found the Epson to be the easier printer to use; the software and drivers are simpler to use and easier to configure. The Epson is also a lot, lot cheaper: $99 against the $500 of the HP.

I have an (old) Epson Artisan 837 which has all those features, but while that printer is no longer produced, Epson has been updating the drivers for it ... I was still able to get the driver for Catalina.
Im trying to install an Epson Stylus color 800 printer on a windows xp machine. I have added the printer and everything else. But the printer and PC are not communicating. I think its a driver issue and would like to know here I can get the driver. I tried Epson but nothing for winXp
I used an Epson Stylus Colour 800 with XP for several years without issue. I used the XP drivers without problem. Are you using an IEEE-1284 certified cable? It will be labeled on the cable. Older paralell cables can have issues with the 800.
