Unlike many other first-person shooter games, SWAT 3 places an emphasis on realistic police methods and tactics, including close-quarters battle tactics, proper use of force, and ideally arresting enemies rather than simply shooting them.

As part of an ongoing partnership between the 310th Space Wing and the El Paso County SWAT team, Airmen assigned to the 310th and 710th Security Forces Squadrons participated in a three-day close-quarters battle tactics course lead by El Paso County SWAT, Feb 2-4, here.
As the name indicates, the game emphasizes the use of realistic close quarters battle tactics. The player is in charge of a 5-man SWAT element, and unlike other tactical shooters, such as the comparable Rainbow Six games, the player is a police officer; therefore arresting rather than simply shooting suspects on sight is the primary objective.
Our training division provides basic to advanced training in close quarters battle (CQB), weapons manipulation, insertion/exfiltration, IED defeat, EOD/SOF (SWAT) integration, standard operating procedures (SOP) development.
The SWAT Team is comprised of personnel that have successfully completed Basic Special Weapons and Tactics and Sub-Machine Gun Operator Schools and have been tasked with carrying out highly dangerous missions that may require unconventional tactics or equipment. Monthly Mandatory training is completed which involves, close quarter battle tactics, woodland operations, building entries and clearing, various range drills, physical fitness, subject control, and arrest techniques, chemical munitions, distraction device operations, less-lethal impact munitions, and various other tactical training involving primary and secondary weapon systems. These operators are on-call 24 hours a day to assist officers if the need arises.
