I specialize in high detail, hand-drawn illustration, with a particular fondness for cartoon maps and cutaways. My work includes puzzles, seek-and-finds, colorable maps and mazes, and the occasional sad animal.
Hi, I am in need of help with selling/pricing used jigsaw puzzles. I have listed jigsaw puzzles in my Ebay store and I am not sure if I priced them correctly. I have listed them for a buy now price including shipping and I've already tried listing them with a price plus shipping bit somehow either way I seem to loose money on them. If anyone has any recommendations that would be greatly appreciated.
I also noticed that you ship "economy." Assuming you mean USPS ground shipping, you can ship puzzles via Priority Mail faster, cheaper, with a free box, and insurance. Ground shipping only makes sense when shipping heavy, over-sized packages, to the furthest zip codes.
I love jigsaw puzzles & putting them together, it manages to get the whole family involved. When I was a kid my mother got us started when dad had a business trip. A lot of good memories! Bits And Pieces brought it all back. Thanks B&P!
I wanted to try using Geonodes to replicate a particle based jigsaw I built a few years ago. The old version was clunky and envolved a lot of steps. Here I just drop the image in the modifier and the image texture and Bobs your uncle. It will automatically adjust to the image dimensions while allowing you to set the puzzle and tile size. It can also facilitate cropping and stretch to bounds.

Stage 3 - Fitting both X&Y Dimensions
As chosing to fit tiles to both image X and Y dimensions may cause non uniform tile size, it was
easier to just scale the existing puzzle to fit the image bounds after the component instances have
been realised and merged.
As the face positions(center points)of the instancing grid are used in the second geonodes modifier(jiggle modifier),the grid is also scaled accordingly.
For each mesh island(tile), the closest grid face position is stored on each vertex to be used as the pivot
point for each tile in the jiggle modifier.
It reminds me of those 3x3 puzzles where you have square pieces with heads and tails of animals. One optimization there is to count up the mismatch between pairs - if you you have a lot more A than you have a then you know that A will tend to be located at the edges of the puzzle, but in an 8x8 puzzle you have a lot less edge to interior ratio so that difference isn't as likely to be useful, nor do I have a good idea for integrating it into an algorithm.

I have been an avid puzzler all my life, but because of Covid, I have rekindled my love of doing puzzles. 1000 pieces are my jam, and I can usually finish one in the course of 2 to 3 evenings or a marathon weekend. You can find me on any given evening listening to an audiobook (downloaded from Overdrive or hoopla) and saying just one more piece...ooh one more...okay, last one...and then it's 3 a.m., and I'm yelling jigsaw! Seemingly lots of people did the same, as puzzle sales have reached levels that haven't been seen since the Great Depression. As one company owner put it, "The puzzle people are still puzzle people, only now they have more time to do puzzles. And people who had not done puzzles since they were kids...were digging puzzles out of their grandma's attic to have something to do and were liking it."
John Spilsbury, a London cartographer, and engraver is believed to have produced the first "jigsaw" puzzle around 1760. It was a map glued to a flat piece of wood and then cut into pieces following the lines of the countries. These early puzzles were known as "dissections," and they were beneficial for teaching geography. But they were not just for children; they were a trendy pastime among the (wealthy) adults as well. Made of wood and handcrafted, only the very wealthy could afford them.
And did old John use a jigsaw to cut apart his "dissection"? No, he did not because the jigsaw had yet to be invented! He likely used a marquetry saw, which is still a popular hand saw utilizing a blade held between its curved frame.
The jigsaw was invented in 1855. It was a vertical reciprocating saw with a treadle to operate the blade. It was also known as a fretsaw or scrollsaw. Jigsaw came from the nickname jig, which was used because of the saw's "rapid up-and-down motion." Picture an old-fashioned sewing machine with a blade instead of a needle. The name "jigsaw puzzle" didn't appear until 1906, and the modern portable jigsaw wasn't introduced until 1947.
During the Great Depression of 1933, manufacturers produced 10 million puzzles a week, and people could rent puzzles for a nickel a night. This was before modern jigsaws and the current die-cut method. Today's Covid era sales have beaten those records with brands like Ravensburger, one of the top puzzle companies, selling over 28 million puzzles worldwide in 2020 alone. That translates to sales in the billions of dollars for puzzle companies worldwide. That is a lot of puzzles!
This classic tile-matching puzzle game has ancient roots with a modern twist. Unlike traditional Mahjong, which is usually played with multiple players and involves strategy and bluffing, Mahjongg Solitaire is a solo game focused on pattern recognition and matching.

The puzzle industry is huge. Its worldwide turnover probably approaches that of the military or some other lucrative sector. The competition seems to be fierce and there are copyrights everywhere even just for the patterns of the jigsaw pieces. So I turn to a safer sector, that of the map of Canada.
I am so down for a decent virtual jigsaw thingy. I wonder if it simulates my dad secretly slipping a piece into his pocket so he can be the one to slot the last piece in? Or the whole family catching on, leading to a jigsaw standoff with five missing pieces and everyone standing around whistling innocently?

We LOVED putting this puzzle together and have since purchased more from this brand. We really enjoyed the different shapes of the puzzle pieces themselves, which made it more challenging for us both.
