Hi fellow gardeners, Hope all is well with our community garden
group. We are planning our thanksgiving dinner menu as I write this
note. Our goal is to include as much as we can from our garden into
the menu. Hope everyone else is doing the same. In a sense, we were
planning our thanksgiving menu last January when we were pouring over
the seed catalogs trying to find the perfect squash that we wanted to
plant. It even started before that. We have our garlic in the ground
for next year's dressing and garlic mash potatoes. Now that is
planning your menu early! Hankand Barb

Barb and Hank,

I think it is wonderful to have this link and hope we can keep it active
all winter long as we plan and think about spring.

You planted your garlic this fall? If so, I must do that. Next year
I want to find seeds for the small striped squash. I have come to love
that and find that you can eat the peel as well as the squash. Someone
said they looked for seeds this year and couldn't find them. Can I save
seeds? Thanks Carol

Hi Carol,
Yes, you can save seeds from squash.  However, make sure that the squash that gave you the seeds that you want to save was isolated from other varieties of squash as it was growing (at least 20 feet away from another kind), or else the new squash from your saved seeds might be "contaminated" and might not look like or taste like the one you saved.  Probably in May of next year there will be a Seed Saving class presented by Trudy Schaeffer; stayed tuned to find out more information!
