Barry -- you're right -- the last one I can find is from January of this year.

Not really surprising, seems to me. Unless someone wasn't paying attention, everyone's aware that sites at Rootsweb are now frozen, and can't be updated. (And almost by definition, if you're subscribed to this list you are paying attention.) So there's nothing to ask for help with.

Like the St. Joseph Island site, mine is still there (https://sites.rootsweb.com/~cetowne/Towne_Bowditch), with a note on every page saying it's no longer being updated, and telling people where it's been moved to (https://www.genarchives.com/Towne-Bowditch).

While this list was created for RootsWeb/Freepages users, and those sites can no longer be updated, HTML and CSS are the same no matter who hosts your website. So, if you have a website you can and do want to update, feel free to ask your coding and formatting questions here :)

Pat A. and the other responders,

Yes, I originally thought that the situation we have now would be the outcome.  Perhaps, those interested in developing their web crafting skills have just made use of the search engines.  Though a problem with that route, is you need to know what to ask.

I was looking back through a heap of HTML files I've made and posted in response to RW Freepages queries over many years, and am considering whether to update them and make them searchable.  Many appeared on RW Freepages, but in later years I placed many on my own site in an unindexed 'test' directory.  On the other-hand, both you and Pat Geary have many such files on your own sites.

SJI Historical Society was very lucky to have an IT fellow come forward who will pay and handle all our needs as long as he can. Still working through the new changes re posting, etc. but very glad to still have our new site http://sjihistoricalsociety.ca

I became a member of this group near the end, before Rootsweb went static.  I took over a website for June Byrne. I found your support and feedback helpful.  I ran into a snag and put my work with her website transfer on hold.  I would be interested in still keeping in touch with you folks.  Cathy Sentz

I now have 5 GenWeb sites. They are extremely basic html. I would love seeing this list active again!

Pat,

I appreciate that offer more and more.

Some times things go wonky and it helps to have fresh eyes see something I don't to fix it or assist when I can't figure it out for others.

Thank you for continuing this group.
