Does anyone know if they were going to restore all of the previous trees, or do we need re-upload them?  I didn't see any of my old ones, so I went ahead and re-uploaded.  Also, are they done with the changes they were making?

Thanks.
Paul

If you are asking about WorldConnect, I doubt anyone but Rootsweb/Ancestry can answer that question.

So here is the issue I am having.  I sent an email to Anne at Rootsweb, as follows.  Has anyone had this issue?

Hi Anne,

I have re-uploaded all of my Sheets DNA Project trees to WorldConnect at:

My user name is sheatsp.

My freepages DNA project website has links to these trees, but they are the old links.  For example:

Old Link:

New Link:

When I log in to my account, I only see the new trees that I recently uploaded.  However, the old links still work from my freepages project website, and show my trees, but those trees are out-dated.  I would like to delete my old trees, but they are not showing under my account.  How do I delete them?

Did my old trees become dis-associated with my current account?  I noticed when I uploaded my new trees, it uses the name of the uploaded GEDCOM file for the tree name.  I think the old upload utility allowed you to give a different name to the tree (other than the GEDCOM file name).  For example, one of my old trees was named "sheetsdna37 -- Sheets DNA Project - Line 37", but the new tree is named "S37_2020-04-25".

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Is your email address the same one that you used when you originally
uploaded your tree?

and your username the same?

I would guess there is a difference there, which would be why your old
trees are indeed at WC but not showing in your account.

I have had better lluck using the CONTACT us form at Rootsweb to get
information to them, you might try that. It may be weeks before you
get a reply, based on what I heard before.

All my trees, both original old ones as well as newly uploaded ones,
appear in a single Rootsweb account when I log in. And as I recall,
they reassigned all my old versions, the names I have given the trees.
But all the new uploads are given new database ID numbers along with
being named from the gedcom name.

I could be wrong, but it seems very unlikely they will restore the
ability to simply upload a new gedcom to take the place of the old and
retain the same tree ID and URL. I guess that is a question you could
ask them.

They do seem to be slowly restoring data that was lost in the new
versions of our trees, but it is taking them so very long, and there
is still so much information not being displayed that displayed in my
original WC trees, that I have moved all but one of my trees
elsewhere.

Inability to just replace old gedcom with a new one at the same URL is
a huge problem - and one reason for me giving up on them. I have
pages that serve as guided tours of the trees, with links to specific
pages of interest in the trees, and it is too much work to rewrite
those every time I upload a new gedcom.

Thanks for the reply.  I will try the "Contact Us" form.  You have a point about the unique ID.  I have several links to change and will have to change every time I upload.

Out of curiosity, what site did you move your trees to?

Wow.  I sent an email and got a response about 90 minutes later (on a Sunday, no less).   They transferred all of my trees from my old account to my new account.  Color me impressed.  There is still the issue of updating all my links though.  Anyone use a different/better site to host trees?

I’m happy for you but I am still waiting.  Sorry but I have no idea what are good sites trees.  IT looks like alot of people use the sites that you have to pay to view other things that can help you add information to your tree, and some I see allow other people to edit and make changes to your tree.  I gave up with the public trees because it seems too many just go away or get bought by someone else and you have done all that work learning how to enter in their programs and make changes and poof it is gone (except usually you can make a ged backup).  If anyone has found something fabulous I too would be interested in hearing also.
