Hi everyone,

The journalist and data scientist Ma. Eliza Villarino has published this interesting post "Data confirm: What’s the language of development?" (https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/data-confirm-whats-language-development-ma-eliza-villarino). She has analyzed the languages required for the jobs posted at ReliefWeb since 2011. "The findings confirm the high need for English speakers with French skills in the aid industry".
There is also a really useful paper ("The most important foreign languages for English-speaking job seekers in global development and humanitarian relief" available at https://github.com/elizajv/datascience_workshop/blob/master/EJV_Capstone_Project_Report_Springboard.pdf) where she explains how she has got all these data through ReliefWeb API and used R to get the results of the investigation.

Hope you enjoy it.

Regards,

Miguel Hernandez

Thanks, Miguel.

I've just published another blog post based on the same dataset (well expanded since it includes data from Reliefweb through June 30, 2016): https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/data-confirm-who-pays-interns-global-development-ma-eliza-villarino. Again feel free to share.

All the best,

Eliza
