Hi everyone,
We are implementing two key updates to the ReliefWeb API aimed at improving security, performance, and long-term maintainability. If your application or integration relies on the API, please review the following changes and take action accordingly.
1. Appname Enforcement
To improve request traceability and reduce misuse, ReliefWeb will begin enforcing the use of unique appname identifiers in API requests. The team has observed that some clients are using generic values. These will need to be replaced with more specific, hard-to-guess identifiers.
🔧 Action Required:
Review our guidance on creating a suitable appname.
Submit a request for a new or updated appname via the provided form.
Timeline: Old and new appnames will be accepted until 1 November 2025. After that, requests using deprecated appnames will be rejected.
2. API Version 1 Deprecation
We are officially deprecating Version 1 of the ReliefWeb API. All users should migrate to Version 2, which offers improved performance, better filtering, and more consistent responses all while maintaining full compatibility with Version 1.
📘 Documentation: https://apidoc.reliefweb.int/
Timeline: Version 1 will be fully disabled at the end of Q1 2026.
We appreciate your cooperation in making these transitions smooth. If you have questions, need support, or want to discuss migration strategies, feel free to reply here or contact us directly.
Thanks,
The ReliefWeb API Team
