Hi guys...
I hope you people remember me... Still I would like to give a brief introduction of myself for someone who don't know me....
This is Umamahesh Madala.... 2009 passout(y5 batch ChE), working since 2.5yrs with ONGC Ltd, Tripura Asset as Assistant Executive Engineer(GT).. I think this introduction is sufficient for the discussion we are gonna have today...
Actually this post is regarding preparation towards ONGC GT 2012 Written test...
Written test consists of 3parts (3 hours time)
1.Technical
2.General awareness
3.Aptitude (Introduced this year)
TECHNICAL:
There is nothing much to discuss this part... Only 2 things i would like to tell you...
a)GATE preparation is sufficient... Core subjects are your targets.. No need of any other subjects other than core subjects..
b)Work more on theory. Concentrate more on problems as well which does not involve CalC and can be solved in 3-4min.
APTITUDE:
As far as my knowledge our people are really poor with aptitude. Remember you are not attending the TCS campus. you are attending one of the most competitive examinations and people from best colleges in India will compete with you... best colleges means students will have better IQ. better IQ means better Aptitude solving skills. I think you should agree that there are many other colleges in India far better than our college.
Aptitude consists of Verbal and Non Verbal reasoning, quantitative aptitude, Data Interpretation etc...(check out GT notification)
The main parts in aptitude which you have to consider is the following (mostly followed in top exams like GRE GMAT CAT UPSC etc..)
a) Quantitative: Time and work, Time and distance, Profit and loss, Interests, permutations, combinations, probability.(do not leave the remaining parts, atleast have a glance).
b)Verbal/ Non Verbal: Critical reasoning, Sentence correction, Data sufficiency, Reading comprehension, Data Sufficiency.
Resources: R.S.Agarwal (Quantitative and Verbal/non verbal reasoning)
GENERAL AWARENESS:
This is most crucial part where most of the people loose their scores. Almost 90% candidates gets disqualified in this section. so, work more on it... No syllabus available... No boundaries for syllabus....
History to Current affairs include in the syllabus.. My suggestion is to work on this section but do not dwell in it. This section will be of good advantage for you when you are good at it because many people are bad in it.
When I attended the exam in 2009, I faced questions only on current affairs. but very next year students faced history and current affairs.. so there is no any pattern for that. try to be as thorough as possible.
Resources: Internet, GK books, History books, News papers, TV and General awareness books.
So, this is for today.. anyone having any doubts feel free to post the query and I will respond as soon as possible...
Thanks & Regards
