I'm sharing this from the Portland club email list.  Darlene is one of many super supportive landowners in Oregon that have let hang gliders and paragliders fly or land on private property for many years (Chehalem launch).  She's also a tough survivor.  Please contribute to her future well-being if you are able.

Both Darlene and her mother before her have been extremely supportive throughout our 25 years of flying off her front lawn. As a thank you, we help her when we can – like after a forest fire destroyed her fencing in 2020.

Monday evening, with temperatures in the 20’s, Darlene fell into her horse pen from the hay loft and broke all her ribs and pelvis. She did not have her cell phone so she had to claw her way out of the pen and into the barn where she spent the night talking herself into not giving up. Her dog never left her side. Alex, her son, found her in the morning and got her to the hospital. She said she doesn’t remember much about the next couple of days except being cold and in a daze. I just got back from seeing her in the hospital and she looks good. Her story of spending the night on the barn floor should make it to the NetFlix stage. She is really tough.

Darlene is not so financially tough so this accident will hurt in more ways than one. Her granddaughter has created a GoFundMe site to help her out. Thanks.
