Pl find info on German Architect & Botanist who were instrumental in the planning of avenues of Bangalore/ Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens, few public buildings in Bangalore and Basavangudi
Gustav Hermann Krumbiegel (1865-1956) was a German botanist and garden designer who was best known for his work at the Lal bagh Botanical Gardens in Bangalore and for the planning of the avenues of Bangalore. In 1908 he was requested by Krishnaraja Wodeyar, the ruler of Mysore to serve him and he succeeded John Cameron at the Lal Bagh Gardens as an economic botanist and superintendent. Although outside his key work area, he was often involved in architectural design. The Dewan of Mysore appointed him as an architectural consultant despite protests from the British Resident in Mysore. During the Second World War, Germans in India were declared as enemies and Krumbiegel was along with other Germans kept in an internment camp in Bangalore
Otto Koenigsberger (1909-99), Please find the link to the thesis on the German Architect architect Otto Koenigsberger (1909-99), who escaped Nazi Berlin in 1933 to go to Egypt and subsequently immigrated to India in 1939. The thesis locate Tropical Architecture as a trans-colonial set of architectural practices that originated in the colonial experiences of European modernist architects. In India, Koenigsberger served as the chief architect for the Maharajah of Princely Mysore from 1939 to 1948 and as the Federal Director of Housing for Nehru's government from 1948 to 1951.
