Dear Sayali and the Group PLuG in @ 2 and the Other 2 Groups,

We appreciate your efforts to put together the set of requirements and area statements for certain overall and specific functions. Please read the following comments and details and incorporate them in the Program.
You could also refer to the Seattle Central Library Program (Rem Koolhaas-OMA) to understand one of the ways to DRAFT a Design Program. WARNING: Its not comparable in terms of the scale of the project as its over 6 times bigger than what we are exploring. Also try not to confuse between the program and the architect's conceptual ideas in this case example

General Comments:
The Design program that you've sent seems to have an emphasis on a set of requirements, It needs to be further detailed and reorganised.

Please write a Program starting with the VISION for the Plugin 2 @ Southend Circle. - in a sentence or two evolved from the    group's understanding of the Precinct, based on the aspirations of the people and the locational opportunity/specificity of the site

Site Area, Location, FSI achieved etc
The set of requirements and (required area for each) which follow should ideally start with the

A. Core facilities -  with area for each category (here for instance):
1.Library:
Print and Digital Media, various classifications Children's, Archives, Journals, Reading etc
Public Interaction Spaces: story telling, reading  and Meeting/Convention Spaces with audio/visual facilities, Book Shop
2.Rent able Space - Office Space/ Commercial Space, if any to make up for the FSI

B. Ancillary facilities - with area for each category
-Administration: detailed
-Cafe, Lounge, Info kiosks
-Printing, Binding, Store space old and new stocks etc

C. Support facilities - with area for each category
Wash rooms- for the public: refer to bldg bye laws for standard nos required,
Staff Facilities: rest rooms, lockers etc
Services: Electrical Room, AHU, Pump/Generator room, Elevator/ Escalators, Transformer yard, Security services etc
Parking:2/4 wheelers: refer to bldg bye laws for standard nos required
Bus Stop and Share-Bicycle Parking as part of the building

Entire class,

I appreciate the attempt; but find it inadequate.

Program shall start with the generation of a core idea that's derived from all your studies & of the site. It shall have to be meticulously worked out to the n-th degree of detail and the detail in turn shall be an expression of the core idea.  If the requirements are written in the same order as of physical approach and departure- in and out the site, as and when it is built- shall be of help; there shall be less chances of missing out any. Further, such an order shall also help you generate a flow/ circulation chart and eventually the design. Further, defining each component to the specificity of usage shall help you clarify your design better. Take any component, for example- a dance hall; let us start with the first principle. What's the size of the hall? How many shall use it at a time? What's the kind of teaching/ coaching that decides its physical making? Furniture? Acoustics?  What are its adjacent/ support components?  Storage? What's that gets stored? And so on. Let us even define the SERVICES and TOILETS, their components and individual sizing. And once you do this, the area intended may swell!

Xl sheet of the requirements drawn as a matrix of areas  shall help; we may compare the areas deduced from the proposal with the intended at any given point of time. This shall help to keep a check on under-building or over-building.

Further, I have not seen the soft-attachment of the site/s as modified which we spoke of on Friday last. And also the program of another group!

Read this in addition to what other teachers have said already.
