RV Boy Scouters

It is time again for the course no one else offers. This course, developed by Scouters from our Council, is designed to increase your knowledge of the outdoors and the skills you need to keep your outdoor program exciting.

Registration is open to youth that are 13 years old and Star rank, and to registered adult leaders. Space is limited so send in your registration as soon as possible. A letter of acceptance and a list of equipment required will be sent when your form is received. An adult registered with their unit must accompany youth from a unit.

Cost of this course is $35.00 per Scout or adult if received by October 20, 2008. After October 20, 2007, the cost is $50.00. No registrations accepted after October 27, 2008. All food and materials are covered in the fee. The course starts at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. Friday arrivals are not possible. Please be in the main Winnebago parking lot by 7:15 a.m. for a Caravan to the Camp Watchung (South End) Training Area. Class 'A' Uniform is requested.

More Details About the Course. . .
The Scout Handbook comes to life... An Introduction to the Boy Scout Fieldbook... Demonstrations right out of Woods Wisdom... These phrases have all been used to describe the locally developed advanced Boy Scout outdoor skills course called "Woodsman's Thong." The course attempts to inspire adult and boy leaders to try, learn and teach Scout skills beyond basic First Class levels to enhance their troop's program. More than two dozen topics are covered during the course.

Veteran Scouters who demonstrate numerous Scouting skills lead the "Thong". Boys must be leaders in their troops; hence they are required to have earned Star Scout. They also must have a registered adult accompanying them on the course.

Many participants repeat their attendance to hear the topics presented again. It is an information packed course where years of practical experience are shared by the staff. The average Scouting tenure of the staff is quite embarrassing, but several Eagle Scouts easily bring this number to well over thirty years a person. These outdoorsmen are hooked on Scouting and have lived it to its fullest. Come prepared with your questions on any Scout skill.
