Hello birders!
If you haven’t heard already - the female Costa's Hummingbird visiting Tanner Martin’s home for many months was deemed an Anna's x Costa's Hummingbird (hybrid) by North American hummingbird expert, Sheri Williamson, who has pointed out that it shows intermediate field marks: shortish greater secondary coverts, a straight bill, extensive green on the sides, and rather broad, dusky-tipped R1 (tail feathers) features on the Anna's side, and pale postocular stripe, faint gorget pattern in center of throat, and slight "Adam's apple" features on the Costa's side.
If you saw this bird and reported it to eBird, can you please edit your sightings to the Anna's x Costa's Hummingbird (hybrid) entry option and delete Costa's Hummingbird from the checklist? Also, if you have ANY photo/audio/video documentation of this hybrid, please upload the media to this checklist whenever possible!
Thank you!
The Rogue Valley is really becoming a hotbed for hummingbird hybrids!
