In my coming and going to and from work this week, I've seen this little bird on the deck and in the yard. I thought I glimpsed a second one like it yesterday as well, but I'm not positive. Today I had the camera ready when it came to the deck. Does it look like a Song Sparrow with no tail feathers? Or something else?

Happy Friday!

That's what it looks like.  A Song Sparrow that lost its caboose some how.  Maybe a cat or other predator.  It should grow back eventually.

Looks like a Song Sparrow (I know it's a Song Sparrow because I posted an ID question yesterday of the same bird and the consensus was SOSP) that escaped the talons of a Sharpie!!!

Does it wobble in flight without a rudder?

I learned at a Klamath board observatory banding workshop that the tail feathers come off easily as a way of the sparrow being able to escape the clutches of an accipiter.  probably the story of why this bird has no tail.  alive but tail less, Shannon rio
