Subject: Yellow rumped warblers question

Birds matching the description of the Audubon subspecies of Yellow-rumped Warbler are making regular visits to our bird feeder this January.  Throat and flank markings are correct.  However, what is puzzling is the apparent complete absence of the yellow rump, and, occasionally, also the yellow patch on the forehead.  Is this a variable within this group?  Or might I be seeing something else?  Thanks!
