Horned Lark (Eremophila alpestris) (60) CONFIRMED
- Reported Feb 23, 2025 15:37 by Elijah Hayes
- Lower Table Rock, Jackson, Oregon
- Map: http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&t=p&z=13&q=42.4549631,-122.9499321&ll=42.4549631,-122.9499321

- Comments: "Whoa! As I was walking in the meadow up top, I heard what sounded like a group of Horned Larks at a distance. I located them to the east, swirling in a large flock over the meadow for a while before putting down. Unfortunately the distance made it hard to make out any field marks, aside from the fact that they were flying together in a tight group; smaller than a meadowlark, long tailed, breast appeared pale and unstreaked. Calls were distinctly different from the Pipit I heard just a couple minutes later, thinner tinkling notes mixed with some buzzy calls. I’ve sometimes struggled with Pipit vs HOLA calls, but I heard the birds multiple times and my immediate impression was Horned Lark each time. I tried to record audio, but unfortunately with the distance and interference from the rain nothing turned out great. I have one recording where if you turn the volume all the way up and put the speakers close to your ear you can barely hear a hint of the call. Another birder today had 25 AMPI but gave no details - if someone can confirm a large flock of AMPI is present I will rescind this report, but based on the calls I am pretty confident right now. Will try to see if I can salvage any audio or if anyone follows up and will update this in a couple days. The number is an estimate, but conservative. Large sprawling group. I tried to trek closer to them to get a better view, but unfortunately they flushed while I was walking over and I didn’t see where they went. Spent about 30-45 minutes trying to refind the group but had no luck and it was getting dark."
