As I was hiking on the Buck Rock trail in the Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument today, I heard and then saw a flock of Sandhill Cranes passing overhead, headed north. A vee composed of about 30 cranes. Always a stirring sight and sound!
Very quiet otherwise, but there were singing Hutton's Vireos at two widely-separated places on the trail.
