Hello Rutledge Borough!

Happy Almost New Year! As a reminder, the borough will be getting a new waste hauler, and with that, our recycling collection will now be collected the same day as trash, on Mondays, beginning next week.

New toters (cans) are being delivered this week–one, with an orange lid, for recycling and one, with a blue lid, for trash. Toter deliveries should continue through Tuesday, 12/31.

Start using these toters for our first collection on Monday, January 6th!

Yard Waste, Trash, and Recycling will all be collected January 6th

For more information, visit our borough website: https://www.rutledgepa.org/

Common Questions:

  • I didn’t get any cans today! Where are my cans? Don’t worry! Deliveries should hopefully be completed by Tuesday, but reach out if you do not receive your cans by the end of week.

  • What can I do with my old can(s)? You can continue to use it for yard waste, donate it, or mark it as “take can” for the hauler to dispose of it.

  • My new can is too big! Can I get a smaller can? Yes, if the 96 gallon capacity is too large, you can request a 64 gallon toter in place of it. Please reach out to the borough office or directly to SEM at 1-302-832-8000.

  • My new can is too small! Can I get a second can? If you regularly need a larger capacity, these can be purcased for a $75 fee. Reach out directly to SEM at 1-302-832-8000.

  • What does a recycling non-compliance sticker look like? See attached–this will be left on cans that were rejected due to non-recyclables in the can. These are used to educate and avoid contamination fees for the borough.

  • Can I put out my Christmas Tree for Yard Waste? Yes! You can put out your christmas tree, but please REMOVE ALL TANGLERS such as tinsel, plastic bags, lights.

  • What are the rules for Bulk Items? Please reach out directly to SEM at 1-302-832-8000 to provide notice of the bulk item by noon on the Friday prior to collection.

  • What does our new recycling processor accept for Single Stream Recycling? See the attached flier or online here.

  • What about Electronic waste? Due to risk of truck fires, do NOT dispose of any lithium batteries, tvs, monitors, or other electronic waste in your regular trash. Rutledge will continue to post electronic waste events in and near to our borough for proper disposal of these items.

  • Where can I find the updated Sanitation Schedule? You can find it here.

Adjusted Sanitation Collections:

  • No recycling collection January 1st as we move to a new service provider

  • No Yard Waste Jan 3rd due to holiday staffing–Put your trees out for collection January 6th. No tanglers!

  • Monday January 6th, begins both Trash and Recycling collection and special Yard waste pick up.

Upcoming Events:

  • Rutledge Borough Council Meetings are held the First and Third Monday at 7:30PM in Lower Borough Hall.

    • January 20th Borough Work Session will be Tuesday January 21st due to MLK Holiday.

Thank you,

Rutledge Communications
