Activities Committee

We would like to thank everyone who participated in our annual luminary event.  This event would not be possible without the help of 20 or more individuals, 13 block caps, and one girl scout troop that helped fold bags, bag candles, scoop sand and deliver close to 3500 luminaries.  A major undertaking.  If you were not able to use your luminaries; please consider returning them to 209 Linden Avenue with your address noted or keep them for 2025.  If keeping, email Sue Hunt at suehun...@gmail.com, so we can keep a record.

2025 will be our 30th anniversary and we are hoping for even more participation.  As stated in a December eblast, the luminaries started in 1995 to honor Dollie Mill's husband who passed that year as he was Santa Claus until 1994.

Also, if anyone has any other historic facts to add; that would be great.  Looking for facts about how long Santa has been visiting Rutledge.  Lynn Woodling was able to provide two dates:  In 1895 children visited a store at 2 Linden Avenue where a certain Kris Kingle was visitng; then in 1945 with Santa going around town with a chorus accompanying him and singing carols at each corner.  Maybe something for 2025.  Any singers interested?  Let Sue Hunt know at the above email address.

  • Game Night will return on 1/22 at the lower borough hall.  Bring your own game or pick from the options available.  Play starts at 6:30 pm.

  • The next Activities Meeting is scheduled for 1/29 at 7:30 pm in the borough hall.

  • The first event of 2025 will be Bingo on Friday 2/7.  Doors open at 6:30. More details to follow, but count on a food drive being part of this event.  Anyone interested in helping or getting donations, contact Sue Hunt.

Sanitation Committee

It was a big day in Rutledge on Monday, 1/6, with a new trash hauling service.  Considering the snowy conditions, recycling not being collected since 12/18, the holidays,  and yard waste being postponed until that day–we felt things went pretty well!  There are still a few improvements we are working toward and hope to be resolved soon. We sincerely appreciate everyone's patience, cooperation, and communication with this new disposal process.

Our hauler has requested that, through April 1, yard waste will also be collected on Mondays.  So, mark your calendars beginning 2/6!  We will keep you posted as to any changes in the spring.

We received a greater number of requests for smaller cans than anticipated; the hauler is working to fulfill these requests and we are prioritizing for residents with a physical limitation surrounding the larger cans.

  • Bulk Item Pick Up  - SEM is still logging our community info into their system but you can still put your bulk item out for collection.

    • There is no charge for bulk item collection.

    • Bulk Items are limited to one item per week per dwelling, just as we in 2024.

  • The Traveling Glass Bin, which Rutledge had for one week in December of 2023, is now located at the Swarthmore Public Works yard. This glass is 100% recycled in Pennsylvania.  While it is a little further, please consider recycling your glass there!

I-95 CAP Construction:

Upcoming lane closures will allow crews to relocate a sewer line and construct foundations for a pier that will support the extension of the new covered area over I-95 and Columbus Boulevard.

  • Motorists are advised of the following travel restriction:

    • Beginning Monday, July 15, through mid-2025, southbound Columbus Boulevard will be reduced from three-lanes-to-two between Race Street and Market Street, and from three-lanes-to-one between Market Street and Walnut Street

    • Northbound Columbus Boulevard is currently reduced to two lanes weekdays between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM for utility construction at that same location.

Thank you,

Rutledge Communications
