Rutledge Neighbors,
We want to take a moment to address the news being shared by the Morton Rutledge Fire Company (MRFC) regarding their relationship with Morton Borough. Last week, MRFC shared a note on social media indicating that, to date, Morton Borough has not provided funding for 2026 to the company.
The operation of the Morton Rutledge Fire Company is a shared commitment between Rutledge and Morton. The merging of the companies in 2010 helped to ensure the sustainability of the company through this shared commitment.
Rutledge has remained faithful to this agreement. Our funding commitment for this year has already been provided to the Morton Rutledge Fire Company. It is our expectation that our partner will do the same.
Rutledge Borough Council has communicated its concerns to the Morton Borough Council and respectfully requested updates on barriers and timelines to funding the MRFC. As a Council, and as a partner, we are committed to working with Morton Borough and the Morton Rutledge Fire Company to resolve this matter as quickly as possible.
Please know that, while this situation is of great concern, there should be no impacts to service delivery while we work towards resolution. Our community firefighters - our neighbors - are committed to doing their part to ensure the safety of our communities.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out to any member of Council with questions or concerns. As always, you are welcome to join us at any Council Session at 7:30PM on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month.
Sincerely,
Jody Roberts
President, Rutledge Borough Council
