Santa Claus is Coming to Town! MRFC will once again escort Santa Claus through Rutledge this Christmas Eve. Starting at 5PM on December 24th, you and your little ones can go outside to wait for Santa and share your last minute Christmas wishes.
Sanitation Committee:
We have a new trash contract starting January 1st, 2025. A letter with our physical newsletter will be coming soon explaining the new procedure.
Please note: All residents will receive two 96-gallon toters (trash cans) starting the last week of December (after our last collection with our current hauler) to use for trash and recycling, but you can continue to use your current cans for yard waste. (No changes there.)
Both Trash and Recycling will BOTH now be collected on Mondays
Yard Waste will continue to be First Friday.
We will be using a different Material Recovery Facility (MFR) for recycling, your diligence in keeping recycling uncontaminated is required to avoid potential contamination fees. If your recycling contains contaminated or non-recyclable materials, a sticker will be affixed to your can and set aside for correction.
While this is a new process, please note doing this will save us the cost of those fees. Note: previously, contaminated recycling was considered trash at the MFR. Please do your best in following the guidelines of no trash, plastic bags, etc. See attached.
Our last yard waste collection contained plastics, causing the borough to incur a contamination fee in addition to our hauling an. Let's try to eliminate these fees.
The traveling glass bin is here!
Rutledge has partnered with the PRC and Swarthmore Borough to bring the glass bin back to the community.
For this collection, the bin is located at 121 Dartmouth Avenue in Swarthmore due to space requirements and the length of time.
Swarthmore and Rutledge are sharing the hauling fees--deeply discounted by PRC. The bins can contain up to 6 tons of glass--100% of which will be recycled--and are hauled for the low price of $150. This is a savings of over $372 for each haul! The bin will remain in the location until full. See the attached flyer for info on accessing the glass bin.
