Exciting thins happening on Camden campus for the GSA.  Here's the recap of the last meeting written by Alisha Laws: (Thanks Alisha!)

Good Afternoon Everyone,

For all of you that came to yesterday's meeting I thank you and hope that you had some pizza, it was delish, THANKS TOM!

CMDGSA Meeting 2/15
Past Week:
Involvement Fair- We were able to have a table, a few flyers, and one of our banners from previous years at a table during the involvement fair which had a very nice turn out.

THE BUDGET!!!- Jamie has offered to put together a budget with all of our events, supplies, and other items included this weekend so we have something to present and vote on at the next meeting. Jaime, Anthony, and I will speak on Monday about any additional items that we might want to add in to make it as effective and efficient as possible.

As discussed during our meeting, here are a few possible events and community action for CMDGSA to participate in/host:
  • Co-Sponsor Anti bullying Seminar- there was word that Mary-Beth Daisey proposed to have an anti-bullying seminar on campus in memory of Tyler Clementi. This would be a great opportunity for us to get our name out there and also be a part of something that the entire campus can see and attend.
  • Dr. Longhofer from New Brunswick "Anti Gay Seminar"- After the wonderful seminar that he held in New Brunswick, we are hoping to invite Dr. Longhofer to come down to present on our campus.
  • Undergraduate School of Social Work Krystal Skinner Walk- This is an event sponsored by the School of Social Work working to raise funds for a Social Work Scholarship in Memory of Krystal Skinner. For those who do not know, Krystal was a student of Rutger's Masters Social Work Program in her last year who was slain by her boyfriend in front of her toddler. I was a part of this event last year and it is truly touching to assist in such a powerful message against Domestic Violence. I think we could be a great help!
  • Trip to the William Way Community Center in Philadelphia! What a great way to learn than to immerse yourself in the community! The William Way Center is directly across the bridge and offers some wonderful events. This would definitely have to be something that we put into the budget as we need to fund our own way over.
  • Day of Silence- In memory of those who have been killed or have taken their own life, this day (I believe April 17th) is to remember those who did not have a voice to get help. We would like to put into the budget monies to buy the rubber bracelets to sell and send to a charity of our choice.
  • Calling all GLEE-KS!!! Lets have a Glee party! Another thing that we will have to put in the budget, and possibly get rights to, but it will be a great way to get the campus involved.
  • A few more ideas were: Park Clean-ups, AIDS Walk in Philly, and an Open-Mic night with some LBGTQA poets from Philly or our neighborhood.
To add to the Budget- food for every other meeting or have the meetings every other week, to save funds...

OFFICERS! Last meeting we got some nominations for our representatives and they are as follows:

President: Jullian Damiani
Vice President- Jennifer Rubinowitz
Secretary- Aaron Bradley
Treasurer- Jamie Lee
GAO Rep- Alisha Laws (and possibly Anthony Sbarra?! =-)  )

I want to make sure to thank you all for offering your time and commitment!

For next Meeting which will be NEXT TUESDAY: FEBRUARY 22ND, During the FREE PERIOD (12:20pm-1:20pm)
  1. Elect Officers
  2. Review and Decide on Budget
  3. Decide on events and community actions
  4. Plan for next meeting
CALL TO ACTION!
Jaime and Brian- could you please make flyers for the next meeting? If you can print them and email me a copy that would be great! If you need help putting them up let me know.

Please make sure to email me with any comments questions or concerns and FORWARD THIS TO FRIENDS!
