Dear All,
I hope you had a wonderful end of the semester. As we prepare for our 2014 meeting, I'm emailing the reading for our interest group meeting, which is Sergei Protopopov's The Elements of the Structure of Musical Speech (1931), chapters 14, 15, and 18. (Thank you, Simon Prosser, for providing us with the pdfs of these chapters!) Those of your who'd like some more background on Protopopov please see Gordon McQuere's excerpt. Also, for more on Yarovsky's theories, please see Phil Ewell's recent article in MTO: <http://www.mtosmt.org/issues/mto.12.18.4/mto.12.18.4.ewell.php>. The Protopopov chapters and the McQuere excerpt are attached.
At our meeting in Milwaukee, we'll start our discussion with two 10-minute presentation on the readings. I've invited two presenters and will report back later in the summer with a detailed itinerary of our meeting.
In other news: our special session on Prokofiev (with Simon Morrison as a respondent) was canned by the SMT/AMS program committee. Although I thought the papers were strong, we'll try again for a special session next year (with a different topic). In the meantime, please email me your suggestions for Special Session 2015.
All the best,
Inessa Bazayev, Chair
Russian Theory Interest Group
