I am in favor of something very informal also.  I know Millie’s (sister) class had something up at Altoona Lake in Marietta.  I don’t believe it was very expensive either.  I do have a community center across from me where I live in Swan Lake the Stockbridge area.  It has a full kitchen, stove, sink, bathrooms and tables.  It would hold at least 75 people and is very inexpensive.  Not fancy at all but very convenient from Atlanta, Covington, South Atlanta and East to Lawrenceville.    This could be a last resort but it is an idea, maybe someone else has a place in their neighborhood.  We could even check with catering, country food, Mexican or something of that sort.  Of course pot luck is good also.  I do have a family reunion the 2nd weekend in October, so that weekend is out for me.

Here is the message from Bobby.....I'm worried because the longer we wait the less notice people have to make plans to come to a reunion. It would really help me to get a date on my schedule......at this point we don't really have a committee working on anything.  Bobby's sister has cancer and isn't doing well so I know it would be an additional stress for him to take the lead. Everyone works so taking on the job of coordinating something like a reunion can be just one more thing to do which was why I was in favor of paying the professionals to do it for us. The messages on the blog were that people wonted to do something informal maybe a pot luck in a park but nothing ever developed and no messages have come through in weeks that is until the recent one from David Young. Do you have and suggestions?  Ruby

JUST TO LET YA'LL KNOW, REUNIONS UNLIMITED HAS ADVISED THAT THEY ARE BOOKED UP FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR.  THEY DID REFER ME TO ANOTHER COMPANY.  HAVEN'T HEARD FROM THEM YET.  OPEN TO ANY SUGGESTIONS.

Hi everyone.....Ruby is right - The most important thing is to get the date set, then send a second notice out for location once that is decided.    Just a suggestion - if you want to go informal - You can get a pavillion at Stone Mountain with a $400 deposit and have everyone bring picnic lunches to keep cost down.   Then invest your remaining funds into activities, like frisbee contests....RHS trivia.....etc....anything to get everyone mingling.   This is just a suggestion - I am Class of '69, coordinating our reunion.   Availability is going to be slim with summer rapidly approaching, but you could give it a try.   Also consider an outing at Callaway Gardens - we've all been there.    Good luck to all - don't give up - just get busy!

Everyone .....   This is a great place on Bells Ferry Road - Lake Allatoona.   They have a great restaurant - a bar - and a large meeting room downstairs - and everyone wears shorts and Jimmy Buffett shirts !    They will even provide karaoke if you ask.    Here's the web site .....

I HAVE POSSIBLY FOUND A MEETING PLACE IN PEACHTREE CITY FOR $300.00.  IT IS WITH THE COMMEMORATIVE AIR FORCE
(THEY RESTORE AND FLY WORLD WAR II AIRCRAFT) AT FALCON FIELD AND THEY HAVE A MEETING ROOM WITH A KITCHEN, BIG ENOUGH FOR 50-60 PEOPLE. PLUS THERE IS A HOLIDAY INN NEARBY THAT I AM TRYING TO NEGOTIATE RATES WITH.  AND THERE ARE SEVERAL NEARBY RESTAURANTS THAT WE COULD MEET ON FRIDAY NIGHT.  LOOKING AT SATURDAY, AUG. 23.  AND IF THIS DOESN'T WORK OUT, HAVE A COUPLE OF MORE OPTIONS.  WE CAN EITHER GO POT-LUCK OR CATERING.

Bob,

If your talking about the hangar at Falcon field, that's a good spot.  One of the bands I play in, Peachtree Jazz Edition,  http://groups.google.com/group/jazzedition  plays there often.

If people want a catered meal,  Carabba's has catered there for a couple of events I attended.  I believe it was pretty reasonable (like $15 a head?), but we would have to check.

There's also "The Gathering Place" in PTC by the amphitheatre, and "The Depot" in Tyrone.

Do you have contact info (email would be great) for most people?  Do you have a list of people that we don't have contact info for?

JOE,

I HAVE CHECKED WITH THE GATHERING PLACE AND THEY ARE BOOKED ON SATURDAY NIGHTS WHICH WOULD LEAVE FRIDAYS (THEY HAVE AN EARLY BOOKING) OR SUNDAY NIGHTS.  I BELIEVE A FRIEND OF MINE OWNS THE DEPOT IN TYRONE AND I AM TO GET WITH HIM MONDAY IF I AM NOT TIED UP AT THE DOCTORS WITH MY SISTER.  THERE ARE ALSO SEVERAL PLACES IN FAYETTEVILLE BUT I BELIEVE THEY MIGHT BE A LITTLE PRICEY.  THE HANGER AT FALCON FIELD LOOKS PRETTY GOOD BUT THEIR AIR CONDITIONING IS MARGINAL.  IF WE MET THERE, WE COULD ALSO MEET FRIDAY NIGHT IN PEACHTREE CITY AT LONGHORN'S OR A SIMILAR RESTAURANT AS AN INFORMAL GET TOGETHER.  PLUS I HAVE A FRIEND THAT IS THE MANAGER OFTHE HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS IN P'TREE CTY AND WE ARE WORKING ON ROOMS FOR THOSE COMING IN FROM OUT OF TOWN.  CARRABBA'S OR SEVERAL OTHER PLACES I HAVE LEADS ON COULD HANDLE THE CATERING.  I WILL GET YOU A LIST OF WHO I HAVE CONTACTED AND WE CAN WORK ON WHAT'S LEFT.

This all sounds great, I would really vote for no music.  If someone wanted to bring something for music that would be great but I believe a DJ or band is too costly and most people just want to sit and talk anyway.

This may sound crazy especially coming from a professional musican, but, I agree with Trissa, I think background music would be plenty, not really worried about the money as much as the noise level.  Also, if it is a fairly small group, there probably would not be that much dancing etc.

CHECKED WITH THE OWNER OF THE TYRONE DEPOT IN TYRONE, GA. (NEAR PEACHTREE CITY) AND HE QUOTED A DAILY RATE OF $1500.00.  IT IS REALLY NICE BUT WE WOULD PROBABLY NEED AT LEAST 100 PEOPLE TO MAKE IT WORK.  THE MEETING ROOM/HANGER AT FALCON FIELD IN PEACHTREE CITY IS $300.00. STILL LOOKING.

Bob,

Sounds like we can probably get by without a large sound system and the expense of a DJ.  If you want, I can take care of the music (mostly 60's?) and bring a sound system good enough for a moderate sized meeting room.  Just let me know.

Joe,  I still have most of my old LP's in the attic just don't have a way to play them. My son loves this music but thinks it's strange I hang onto them. I noticed that you play in a band what instrument do you play.....Clark plays drums, violin, guitar so we have lots of music going on around here. Ruby

Hi to all, it is good to know there are good people who care to work
on this project. Aug 23 is good for me, not that it matters to the
whole scheme of things but we have another grandchild, #4, coming
around Sept 7, fortunately our daughter is in Waleska, GA and uses
Hennesaw Hosp.so whatever yall work out sounds great to me. Even
though I am still in AL let me know if there is anything I can do to
help. Regards, Dave Young

PLUS THEY HAVE A CATERER (OUTSIDE CATERER YOU HAVE TO PAY AN ADDITIONAL $200.00).  THERE IS ALSO A $150.00 SECURITY DEPOSIT REFUNDABLE AFTER THE FUNCTION.  THEY ALLOW YOU TO BRING ALCOHOLIC BEVERIDGES.  THERE IS A HOLIDAY INN EXPRESS ACROSS THE SQUARE AND A HAMPTON INN NEXT DOOR.  THEY HAVE A WEB SITE AT HOLLINGSWORTH HOUSE.COM AND THE CATERER IS METROCATERINGATL.COM.  LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

The Hollingsworth would definitely be a little nicer atmosphere than the hanger meeting room.
Any idea what their caterer would want per head?

The price ($1500)for the place in Tyrone sounds a bit steep.

JOE,

COULDN'T GET IN TOUCH WITH THEIR CATERER, METROCATERINGATL.COM.  WEB SITE SAID THEY CHARGE AN EXTRA $1.00 PER PERSON AFTER 4PM.  THE HOLLINGSWORTH HOUSE LOOKS NICE.  IT WAS $300.00 FOR THE FIRST 4 HOURS WITH AN EXTRA $100.00 PER HOUR AFTER THAT.  PLUS THERE IS A $150.00 SECURITY DEPOSIT THAT IS REFUNDABLE.  WILL CHECK WITH THE CATERER.  ROSEMARY EDINGER HAS BEEN THERE BEFORE AND SAID IT WAS NICE.  I AGREE THAT THE DEPOT PRICE IS STEEP.  WE WOULD NEED AT LEAST 100 PEOPLE TO MAKE IT WORK PROBABLY.

                   BOB
