Last night was game two of the tournament. The Russets were the 2nd
seed. Twin Falls was the 1st seed. Twin Falls won their game the
previous day 19 to 3 I believe, so both teams had plenty of pitchers
available. Russell thought the coach was going to pitch Jeff Hendrix
and he would come in for relief. I was surprised at the game when
Russell started. Russell did really well. He pitched 6 innings. I
think that was all he was available for. Twin was scoreless through
the first 2 innings. In the next two innings they got 6 runs. I am
not sure how many were earned, there was no box score in the paper
this morning. If I remember right the fourth inning had three or four
errors. In the fourth inning, it seemed like Twin was starting to
figure something out as they got two or three hits in a row, but the
next two innings they got no runs and had a hard time hitting him
again, so it was good he finished strong.

The team was fired up good for the game and ended up loosing by one
run 9-10. Coach Horne said in the paper that they left too many men
on base. There was a couple of times I remember we left the bases
loaded. There were too many thinking errors too. Things like making
a bad throws to the base when the runner was already there (that
scored two runs on one bad throw), not tagging up on a fly ball until
it was too late to advance. Letting a run score from third when there
was a run down between first and second, things like that. The team
ended up with 5 errors in the game.

In a close loss like that, the hard part is all the what ifs.

Russell batted for the six innings he was in. He struck out swinging,
had a good hit that looked like he would get on with, but the fielder
made a great play, and walked.

Well they get another go at it today. If they can win today they will
still qualify to go to the state tournament in Lewiston on the 3rd
through the 7th of August. We will see how the bounce back.
