Last Saturday, the LDS Church broke ground for a new temple in Kiev
(Kyiv) Ukraine. It will be finished in 2009.

Part of the preparation for the opening then will be that hte LDS
Church, which has microfilm cameras and two digital cameras in the
country filming records there, has the indexing program as mentioned
in my earlier post about microfilming following the Communist era, is
planning to start the indexing program on Ukraine records.

According to a news article on the temple groundbreaking, they hope to
start later this year, and by the time the temple opens, have 'tens of
millions of names' ready to search onlline. That means many people
will find something right off.

This will benefit many more people than just LDS members. Everyone
with interest in Ukranian and to an extent Russian records, will
benefit from this. The LDS Church plans to convert everything they
have to digital, meaning you'll be able to log on like you are right
now wherever you are, and search and view the original records online.

This sounds wonderful to me. Hope I know when it happens.

You wouldn't know by any change how to order a book from LDS Church
would you? I am really new at this and do not have a clue about a lot
of things yet.

Thanks for info

The way you order a microfilm right now until they get the specific
one you need online, and that could take 6 to 13 years to get it all
online, is this.

Go to your local FamilySearch Family History Center, you can look them
up on familysearch.org.

In fact, before you go, be sure you know what film you need to view,
you can look them up online at familysearch.org as well.

Once there, order the microfilm in, there is a small fee but it is not
very much, mostly the cost of shipping it to your FHC.

They will tell you when the film has arrived for you to view. Usually
you have a few weeks. Sometimes the FHC will have the film you need
already in its own permanent loan collection, not the whole
collection, but a few that relate to the research most commonly done
there.
