Welcome to the Ruscoe group! Tony Ruscoe is the actual owner of the
Group and the Ruscoe.net website as you will see if you go on its home
page. Creating such a website was one of my ambitions, but I had not
got round to it, so I persuaded Tony to allow us a page on his to
start with, and it has grown from there.

Now we have Ruscoe.name separately from his Ruscoe.net.

Tony also found the Google groups, in their early stages, so he set up
one for our extended family, and we share the management. He is still
a youth, but I am at the other extreme, being retired and now past
80. I spent 40 odd years in computing (and a similar period off and
on researching my family), so am fairly capable, but not completely up
to date. Although I was born in Manchester, and now live in Bedford,
my father came from North Shropshire.

1) Now that you are approved you can view old messages and either add
to existing 'threads' or start a new one.

2) If you see a message that you want to respond to and do a reply -
it will go to the group and not the individual. To send a private
email, copy their email address into a new message. If you do reply
to the group then others will see it and may chip in.

3) When doing a reply, it is probably as well to delete some, or all,
of the original, just keeping the Subject and a few key lines on which
you wish to comment. Otherwise the messages get longer and longer; if
people want to follow the whole 'thread' they can do so on the group
website.

4) You have various available options: to change these, log into the
website and click on 'Unsubscribe or change membership'. I would
recommend opting for one of the email options - if you choose No Email
then it is up to you to remember to look at the website regularly. We
get bursts of activity and then a lull, so it is better if you receive at least

a Digest or Abridged email if you don't want the full thing.
You are then alerted to look at the details. You should also set your
'Nickname' to something meaningful (some are very obscure or non-
existent).

5) We recommend everyone, on joining, to add an entry to the 'Who Am
I?' thread, giving a potted family history. We don't usually give
much personal information about living persons (although the group is
restricted to members). However, if you can name and date your
grandparents with some detail of their place of origin, then someone
else may recognise a link and come back to you. Please remember to
give your name, and roughly where you are. Many group members are in
the UK, but we have a few from Canada, the USA and other parts of the
world, including OZ and NZ.

via the Web. This is now some years old, so some web URLs may have
changed - I'll have to review that! Certainly more sites now have Census

data, and the Roll of Honour has spread to cover much of the country.
