For those of you still on the list, the story continues! Hope all
of you are doing well.
- It started with several measurement studies and consumer surveys about the quality of service that consumers get on their phones, this was published here https://www.telegraphindia.com/india/study-tests-mobile-story/cid/1492799 and https://www.newslaundry.com/2016/07/15/from-airtel-to-idea-all-telephone-network-providers-are-liars and some papers here and here
- Since then we have advocated for better quality of
service regulations with TRAI and have been pushing the
concept of broadband labels, just like nutrition labels on
food packages, that the providers should display on their
website and point-of-sale/service, instead of misleading
advertisements.
- We have now build an app which makes the
provider-reported performance data available to consumers
in an easy manner, and need feedback from consumers to
build a stronger case for broadband labels.
- We would like you to download the app and submit the
two feedback forms on the app please! The data will help
us build a stronger case for broadband labels in India
- The Android app can be downloaded from http://bit.ly/2FEj9EP
Thanks a lot!

Are you curious to know how your mobile Internet services
operator compares to other operators? What operator should
you choose that delivers the best performance in your
area? Do you want to understand more about different
performance parameters that affect your mobile Internet
quality of experience?
Then download the app and explore. This is an attempt by
IIT Delhi and CUTS to improve consumer awareness about the
quality of service provided by different telecom operators
in India. It makes use of performance data reported by the
operators to TRAI, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of
India, and makes that data accessible in easier ways to
consumers.
Our goal is to empower consumers to make an informed
choice about telecom operators, by advocating for a
consumer broadband label that all operators should make
visible on their websites and service agreements. Please
download the app fill out the feedback form to tell us
about what you think about the concept of broadband
labels.
