Dear all,

I've asked Jason (designer, developer, translator and many other skills
;-) ) from our office to design a new icon to add in the
windows/Linux/Mac menus and this is what he has come up with.

What's your impression?

(there are two attached files. png is the original icon file. robot.ico
include four sizes picture, Windows desktop or Windows
App will select picture size automatically.)

Thanks

Fred

Artistically, this is much better than anything I could ever dream of coming up with.   However, I must admit that I don't really like it much.   One teacher (Andy Judkis) in the U.S. has been using rur-ple every year since it became available.  One of the comments he forwarded to me is that the students found Reeborg "cute" and friendly looking.   I do not find the proposed icon to be very friendly looking.

Also, Reeborg's default color is gray.  I am a bit hesitant to change the color....

Caveat: I am horribly biased when it comes to this kind of details.  I drew, pixel by pixel, the robot images that appear in the world.  My son, who was 12 or 13 at the time, drew the splash screen.  So, I do have some emotional attachment with the images used...

However, I also know that some people found the images in the world (different from the pictures discussed in Fred's message) to be confusing: the robot appears sideways whereas the world is viewed from above.  I am wondering if it might be actually appropriate to rethink the images used for the robot....

Regards,
André

Thanks for the feedback. I also do find the robot in the icon a bit
"angry" looking. I'll ask Jason to do something a more friendly Reeborg
and in gray.

Never thought that the side looking Reeborg could be confusing, but if
you feel like changes those (or providing 2 options to make everyone
happy) why not.

I just asked my two kids and they both, independently, suggested it should be blue.   And they find the new icon looks "cool".

So there you go! :-)

Dear André

Please find a new batch of icons with gray and blue color added, as well
as a more smiling face. There is also one with a book in the background
which is meant to be used to link to directly to the RUR-PLE lessons
(making it easier to run them in your browser).

Let me know how you and your family like it and which combination of
color, background and facial expression you prefer. Of course any other
suggestion is welcome.

Thanks.

Much better. The gray robot is a bit dull ... so my preference would
be for the blue robot, but with the maze in the background in red.

That is an excellent idea!

Let's run with it! :-)

Attached 2 quickly hacked versions of blue/red and gray/red. I asked
Jason to make us a vector version as well so we can easily get any size
we need without asking him every time.

I think the blue one (with red background) is the best of all those
done so far. It is very distinctive. I like it!

We may have to change the default color for Reeborg from gray to a
blue version! :-)

Thanks for this.

André
