Hey Runway peeps!
Peter was here today to talk to Elliot Ronen (our next presenter) and got me and Fredrick talking while we were here.
We were talking about the ongoing challenges we've had both on our end and on the public's end wrapping our heads around what exactly Runway is, and we were thinking about how we needed to better define it to make it easier for us to organize and for participants to get involved in.
So what is the Runway Project anyway?
When it comes down to it, I think the closest model we can identify with is that of a school. We're basically administration who are finding teachers and students to stick in a room together.
If we can start thinking of this as a more concrete, specific entity, even as a self-sustaining social enterprise, maybe we can make Runway Project more sustainable.
New Work City University
What if we thought about it as New Work City University, and Runway Project as freshman year.
Instead of us looking for people to speak at one-off events, we can look for people to give ongoing classes. And maybe we could have classes with guest speakers, but it would be within a more cohesive framework. Attendees, too, could feel a greater continuity, as they could "sign up" for the classes they're most interested in (instead of us blasting all events to everyone).
And this could open us up to having both free and paid classes, depending on how advanced the classes would be.
We'd have to start simple, but there's an obvious possibility to build some really interesting software to support this as well.
What do you think?
How's this sound?? It feels like the right direction to go, but it's just an early thought right now.
Cheers!
