Mutthu Marathon started by Konganapuram Foundation and Konganapuram
Sports Club as a state level event ( near Salem, Tamilnadu ) in honour
of our courageous ancestors to inspire active, organized, competitive
long-distance running among our rural youth. The ultimate vision for
this initiative is to help develop a world-class runner for Olympics
from our region. Starting with with 117 participants in two categories
in 1998, the annual event has grown to 600+ participants in recent
years. Full-marathon (42.2 KM) was introduced on our 13th event in
2010, with corporate sponsorship from Numeric Power Systems Ltd.,
Chennai. It's fair to say that Mutthu Marathon has evolved today to
become one of the most stimulating events for young athletes in the
greater area!

Mutthu Marathon is unique in terms of encouraging rural sports. Many
of the visiting runners in the past heave remarked that Mutthu
Marathon tracks offer one of the pleasant and charming experiences.
Please be aware that Mutthu Marathon, set on country roads on a hilly
terrain, offers one toughest full-marathon tracks in the world even
for veteran runners. In spite of Winter season, the temperature could
get very warm especially for the full and half-marathon runners.

Mutthu Marathon happens every year on the 2nd Sunday of January, or
the Sunday before Pongal. All events start at the beautiful lake shore
of Vaikuntham Selliamman Kovil, Vaikuntham, Salem and ends at
Konganapuram Salem. We are looking forward to your participation this
year on 15th Mutthu Marathon on Sunday, 8th January 2012
